This is an novel audio tool (and artistic pattern generator), experimenting with the idea of playing multiple waveforms simultaneously – without the individual waveforms affecting one another in terms of phase. Normally when multiple waves are played simultaneously, the waveforms sum together to create a single complex waveform, creating a new wave ‘shape’ that looks unlike the originals. Certain waveforms normally cancel one another out, such as a sine and cosine wave of the same frequency. But in this experiment they can be played simultaneously, and combine into a single waveform that superimposes all the constituent parts into one. So try it out – play with the audio settings below and zoom in and out on the graph to see the results! The visual output is beautiful and could be useful for graphic design as well.
